First Harvest!
A few days later and those strawberries are ready! Amelia was super excited to eat one. There were enough ripe for each of us to have one, in fact. I have to admit, it was the most delicious strawberry I have ever had. So much flavor packed into that tiny package!

Progress
The strawberries are pretty small, but a few of them are just about ready to eat! Everything else is coming right along as well.
The broccoli sprouts are getting a little bigger. It's going to be time to thin them pretty soon!
The carrots are popping up like crazy! Still no real leaves yet, though.
The romaine lettuce is doing great. Gettin' about time to thin those guys, too.
The peas are almost up to the first bit of twine!
The first round of radishes are getting bigger...
and the second planting is sprouting already! It's only been 4 days since we planted them!

Backyard Herb Garden
A couple months ago, I saw a pin on Pinterest of a great backyard herb garden. We wanted to do a contained herb garden and once I saw it, I knew the back door herb garden would be perfect.
After stopping by Lowe's for galvanized steel containers (we found them in the paint section) we headed over to Jericho for the herbs. Here's what we got:
Catnip:
Oregano:
Basil:
Sage:
Dill:
and Rosemary:
The end result:
We put a ring of holes on the bottom of each container using a nail and hammer (we put them in through the bottom so the rough edges would be inside, and there was no issue of denting) then filled them about halfway with medium rocks for added drainage, followed by potting soil. This is right outside our back door, so it will be super handy when we need to grab some herbs for cooking.
Nathan really wanted to create our own trellis, so while at Lowe's this morning, we got some dry bamboo shoots to make our own trellis for our snap peas and (future) green beans. I got the idea here: bamboo pea trellis. Nathan is currently putting it together.

Blustery day, but progress nonetheless
Our wee sprouts are growing! We now have carrots and romaine lettuce popping up, and lots of development on everything else. Today has been an extremely windy day, with lots of cloud coverage blowing through.
Strawberries!
This is one of the strawberry plants that we're preventing from flowering this year. Lots of new leaves are popping up!
Spinach!
Radishes!
Romaine lettuce!
Broccoli!
Carrots!
and Snap Peas!!
Some newer sprouts have come up recently. Here you can see the pea casings where they've broken through (we'll have to try to cover them up more after this crazy wind subsides):

Cherry Update
Not much new to report besides the progress of the cherry tree. The blossoms are passing, and the fruit is growing!
This little friend was wandering around too, helping to protect our yummies:

We're Growing Now!
Everything is sprouting like crazy! At least a few seeds of each variety are, that is. Well, not the romaine and carrots, yet, but we just planted those a few days ago. Here are some radishes:
and some spinach:
and some broccoli:
and some peas:
Nothing else to report for now. Nothing else to plant this coming weekend, either, so look for the next post around the 14th or 15th, probably. I'll bet we have some good growth by then!

The Rest of the Yard
Figured I'd shoot some other stuff while I had the camera out. Remember that daisy Amelia and I got for Lori?
And then there's this guy. For some reason I never remember what it is. Lavender, I think? I'll have to ask Lori again. She went through with the ol' hose before I got here.
Our tree out front. It flowers like crazy in the early spring for about a week. So pretty. The new leaves coming in are pretty cool too.
I have no idea what this thing is, but it looks cool.
Our snowball bush is just starting to make little tiny snowballs.
And the roses are going to go crazy pretty soon. This one especially. It has tons of buds!

Sprouts!
I lied just a little bit ago. We do have some sprouts! Poor seeds, they were in the ground doing nothin' for 2 weeks. 2 days after we started watering correctly they're sprouting!
Seeds Phase 2
Still no sprouts, but it's only been a few days of watering correctly. Regardless, it's time to plant some more stuff!
Next up, carrots:
and romaine lettuce:
We'll add another row each of carrots and romaine in about 3 weeks, and then we'll have enough room for 1 or maybe 2 more rows of romaine after that.
