Backyard Herb Garden

A couple months ago, I saw a pin on Pinterest of a great backyard herb garden.  We wanted to do a contained herb garden and once I saw it, I knew the back door herb garden would be perfect.

After stopping by Lowe's for galvanized steel containers (we found them in the paint section) we headed over to Jericho for the herbs.  Here's what we got:

Catnip:

Oregano:

Basil:

Sage:

Dill:

The end result:

We put a ring of holes on the bottom of each container using a nail and hammer (we put them in through the bottom so the rough edges would be inside, and there was no issue of denting) then filled them about halfway with medium rocks for added drainage, followed by potting soil.  This is right outside our back door, so it will be super handy when we need to grab some herbs for cooking.

Nathan really wanted to create our own trellis, so while at Lowe's this morning, we got some dry bamboo shoots to make our own trellis for our snap peas and (future) green beans.  I got the idea here: bamboo pea trellis.  Nathan is currently putting it together.
